Käthe Wohlfahrt – Christmas Shops Germany

Ok, you simply can’t have a blog about Christmas shops and not include Kathe Wohlfahrt, and in particular their stunning premium store in the walled town of Rothenburg in Bavaria. Wow! Wow! Wow!

I don’t think anyone who visits this town, and the numerous stores ,can feel anything but overwhelmed by the experience. We originally traveled here when we were staying in Nuremberg Germany in December 2000 to experience the Christmas markets. I visited the Kathe Wohlfahrt store in Nuremberg and thought it couldn’t get much better- but this store is about 10% of the size of their main store in Rothenburg.

All their stores are full of charming hand made wooden ornaments of traditional German style. Plus they have created a significant range of more quirky modern pieces. The stores are full of stunning displays, and in the main store there are huge Christmas trees, town displays and more to keep your vision darting from one side of the room to the other just waiting to see what you discover next.

I have always bought far too much when I’ve visited these stores because there are so many unique pieces to choose from. Unfortunately, when we visited I was not using a digital camera so I don’t have a great range of photos to show you. (What a great excuse to go back!) So, these are photos from their website, and a few photos I took at the Heidelberg store when I was there a few years ago.
